Rome and Mary Mackillop's Canonisation

Back in Rome - the Headquarters! Our hotel is to the right and I scored a great room. Lots of space and good e-connectivity so far.

The majority of the Canberra Archdiocesan pilgrims have arrived, and for the main part, they look fairly fit after their long flight. I met most of them before going out to dinner near St Peter's. After dinner I was asked with little notice to do a news grab for Channel Seven's Sunrise program. It took longer to set it up than it did to answer the one question they asked. Oh well, this was never going to be about me. This is a pic of my Sunrise sidekick pilgrim, Heidi Welsh from Eugowra.

Day one of the pilgrimage in Rome was spent at St Peter's. We were to say mass at t Joseph's altar opposite the Papal altar, but due to timing we had to attend rather than celebrate the mass in the Basilica. Once again, it is not about us.

Many of the Canberra pilgrims have not been to Rome before so they have been captivated by its magic, and huge queues, especially this holy week. We went to the Vatican Museums and then the Sistine Chapel. I received real joy watching their faces come alive inside after the wet and lengthy wait. Here are pics of Bishop Mark leading the look to the top of the Papal altar in St Peter's, the ceiling of the Hall of Charts in the Vatican Museum, and a tiny part of the queue.

Here is Sr Kathy RSM and her niece Anne representing Cootamundra and wondering which chair they will have for the Papal Audience on Wednesday.
